Daker/Dicus/Datus-Thornton Cemetery (historic)
(Anne Arundel)
Furnace Ave.
Glen Burnie, MD 21060
Property once belonged to the William Thornton family.
1812-1890
7 Graves, 10 names listed
No know veterans
Only a single stone was found in 2003 although many other tombstones were known to be there at an earlier time.  The Dakers stone apparently was located in the middle of the plot.
“Daker” is the name on the tombstone but the family name is also given as “Dicus” or “Datus”.
This property is part of an original grant of 140 acres known as “Lynch’s Purchase”.
The original deed was burned in the Baltimore fire of 1904.  The state assessment office in Annapolis has an “unofficial plat” with the cemetery site listed as “unknown” (i.e. no taxable ownership).
On July 17, 1917 the Dugans sold the point of land to Farnham Real Estate “saving and excepting about one half an acre for burying ground”.
Additional family genealogy is available.
Robert Barnes mentions several Dicus family members listed here in his book Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland pp. 172-3.
G.M.Hopkins’ Atlas of Anne Arundel County, MD in 1878, lists W. Thornton as the property owner with 140 acres in the Fifth District.
