Also known as St. Peters Protestant Episcopal Church Cemetery, Elliott’s Chapel, Stuart Hill/Stewart Hill Cemetery

The property was previously part of Fort George G. Meade. The cemetery is now part of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Refuge (2009) under the auspices of the U.S. Dept. of Interior U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The cemetery is located on a low hill south of Tipton Army Airfield and Wildfire Loop and must be accessed by checking in at the contact station there off Route 198

Tombstones range from 1890-1999
Approximately 30 graves
Tombstones include WWI veteran
There is a historical marker at the entrance to the cemetery that reads:
Site of Ellicott’s Chapel (Episcopal)
Queen Caroline Parish
1840-1868; St. Peter’s Church
1869-1917; included in military reservation and used as a chapel
1917-1919; erected in memory of the early parishoners [sic] by their descendants
The cemetery continued to be used until 1969 although the church was burned in 1920. St. Peter’s Parish became the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Odenton.

The church’s location is shown on the 1878 Hopkins map, and on the 1976 Fort Meade map. The cemetery is listed as “Stuart Hill Cemetery” on the Odenton quad topography map.
